1. What to work on

Themenwand Sammlung

In the first part, participants will make an initial assessment of their project idea or research and determine to what extent it is suitable for a Citizen Science approach or which topics of their work could be enriched by a Citizen Science approach. The aim of this session is to get a good assessment of whether the Citizen Science approach is suitable for your project and which aspects or topics you should focus on when starting a Citizen Science project.

Theoretical Background

In this part, methods from product management and marketing are incorporated and used to build a scientific project. Since a citizen science project needs a close connection to people who are not scientists themselves, approaches from these disciplines help to shape and communicate well with these people.

Activities

Go through the activities in order, as the results build on each other. All activities can be used for self-study as well as in a group. All activities use a visual thinking approach to analyze and communicate the respective aspects in order to prepare for clear and easy communication in later phases of the project.

Learning Goals

The main aim of the session is to make participants aware of the particular aspects of a Citizen Science project and how the approach relates to their project idea or research. Participants will learn which questions or topics can benefit from a Citizen Science approach. They will also learn to identify potential questions or issues in their work or environment. The session also prepares participants to communicate their project or research simply and clearly to non-scientists or people on the street.

By the end of Session 1, participants should have a clear picture of their project idea and a good assessment of whether the idea is suitable for a citizen science project.
